This webinar will help prepare CDI’s to work in video settings, and prepare the Hearing Interpreters to work with Deaf Interpreters.
Historically, very few assignments were available to Deaf interpreters, while Hearing Interpreters have been employed by VRS companies. These VRS companies provide paid training, technical support, and are now also providing support as these interpreters transition to a work-from-home setting. In contrast, Deaf interpreters have no training, and no support for setting up for remote work.
COVID-19 has changed our world and is changing our best practices in interpreting. More and more press conferences are calling for virtual provision of interpreting. Best practices encourage us to use Deaf Interpreters. We will explore preparation specifics, teaming and technical considerations to share ideas and solutions on how Deaf-hearing interpreter teams can work together remotely to provide optimum interpreting for press conferences.
This workshop will cover the following topics:
1) Setting up your workspace
- Internet connectivity
- Lighting
- Background

2) Call management

- Connecting to the source
- Deaf-hearing teams working together
3) Trouble-shooting
