Internalized Oppression - How Oppression Drives our behavior/interaction with others.
- Registration Closed
Internalized oppression occurs when one group of people recognizes a distinct inequality of value compared to another group of people and, as a result, desires exact the behavior of the more highly valued group. Internalized oppression can manifest in a variety of discourses such as oppression, social dominance, experience oppression, sexism, discrimination, audism, and dysconscious audism. Essentially, individuals (and groups) act out the socially constructed, accepted stereotypes. The narratives informing these stereotypes emerge from an intersection of social influence- education and culture, e.i, and manifest in belief systems that shape identity, value, attitudes, and behavior - all of which are a reflection of one’s experience with oppression. This webinar will serve as a starting point to explore how our own unique identities, not only empower or disempower, us as individuals but also how our own identities propel us to view internalized oppression. By engaging in this workshop participants will explore power narratives of oppression in action.
